With Chanukah in full swing, Team ProTip has a gift for you: eight great holiday events, gifts and party ideas that will keep you feeling festive and full of light long after the menorahs have been put away for another year. So prepare to eat, drink and be merry – after all, it’s the most wonderful time of the year!
Chef Michael McNally’s latkes will have you begging for a ninth night!
Tuesday, December 16…Celebrate Chanukah with Eight Days of Latkes at London Grill with a nightly changing trio of latkes prepared by Chef Michael McNally – perfect as a complement to their menorah lighting each evening at sundown. Expect traditional latkes with potato, onion, matzah meal and egg, plus inventive combinations that might include sweet potato, carrot-ginger, goat cheese-mushroom and more.
Friday, December 19 and Saturday, December 20…For those who prefer not to limit their holiday consumption
to just one day, all three locations of Estia and Estia Taverna will host a festive holiday pig roast: for $32 per person, indulge in a whole pig, stuffed and roasted with Greek cheeses, onions and potatoes, and served with oven-roasted potatoes.
Now through New Year’s Day…During the holidays, any time is the right time for rum, especially at Cuba Libre, where their house-made Coquito (if you’ve never had it, prepare to be obsessed) is just $8. The actual recipe is a closely guarded secret, but we’ve discerned that it entails coconut spiced rum, toasted coconut, cinnamon, vanilla, sweetened condensed milk and coconut in boozy harmony. We crave it all on its own, but they’re also going above and beyond by pairing it with any of their signature desserts for $14.
Now through Monday, January 5…Share your wacky, wonderful and weird holiday traditions with Di Bruno Bros., via social media using the hashtag #cheesytraditions, or online at DiBruno.com/Traditions, and you’ll be entered for an opportunity to win one of several prizes totaling $1,939 in value (fun fact: Di Bruno Bros. was founded in 1939). Prizes will be awarded throughout the season, including $25 gift cards, gift baskets and “swag bags,” with the grand prize – a $1,000 Di Bruno Bros. shopping spree – awarded on January 5. Full rules are available at Di Bruno Bros.’ website, but c’mon: $1,000 worth of cheese?! We’re in.

To share…Take a break from all the conspicuous consumption and think of someone else, will you? Hint, hint: Team ProTip is always in the market for a Secret Santa. If the lucky ducks on your list feel the same way, may we suggest Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant? From gift cards to bottled reserves (available individually and in two themed gift packs) to membership in their King of the Hill rewards program, the popular local craft beer powerhouse is a must for beer-related giving – and this year, for the first time, they also have their Bedotter Belgian-style ale available in cans ($18.25 for a pack of four), perfect for gifting or bringing to holiday parties. Instant party karma. Pair all that great craft beer with goodies from Di Bruno Bros. – visit their annual Holiday Pop-Up Shop in the historic Italian Market from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on December 19-24, or shop online for their buttery, fluffy panettone (studded with savory raisins soaked in premium orange liqueur) or other traditional holiday snacks, including stollen (German fruit cake), torrone (toasted nougat candy baked with nuts) and chestnuts (ideal for “roasting on an open fire”…).
To serve…If you’re hosting the gathering, why struggle with all the pesky cooking and cleaning up when you can let the seasoned pros at London Grill or Oyster House do the heavy lifting? For on-site gatherings of all sizes, just email email@example.com; if you have the inclination (and the space) to host, get a load of Oyster House’s new Catering Menu: lobster rolls on demand. ‘Nuff said.
