While the gyms are crowded shoulder to shoulder with #resolutionaries, Team ProTip has a “New Year, New You” move of our own: New Year, New Yum, including four restaurants that opened in the past month or so to help get 2016 off to a delicious start:
In the dining paradise that is 13th Street, the Zavino team welcomed polished little sister Tredici Enoteca, a drop-dead gorgeous eatery that has already earned critical acclaim for their warm hospitality, expansive wine program and tempting menu of Italian-inflected small plates perfect for sharing. Hoping to make something more out of that New Year’s Eve kiss? Bring your date here, and thank us later, because things just got serious.
Hungry for more? Go big at Urban Farmer, the decadent new steakhouse at The Logan on Logan Circle, a welcoming restaurant that includes prime cuts, many from local Pennsylvania farmers, plus shareable sides of locally grown vegetables and grains, complemented by a progressive cocktail list and an exceptional selection of whiskeys. No snowstorm is a match for a fireside seat at this cozy spot.
Fancy a trip abroad without the interminable waits at the airport? Look no further than Fairmount, where East Passyunk prodigy Townsend Wentz has planted his flag with his second restaurant, A Mano, a haven of authentic Italian fare. With hand-crafted pastas from Executive Chef Michael Millon, this is the perfect BYOB spot to bring that snazzy bottle of wine that you scored over the holidays.
Further afield, we finally have a reason to visit New York that’s worth the bus trip up the turnpike: High Street on Hudson, the latest from do-no-wrong High Street Hospitality Group’s Ellen Yin and Eli Kulp. It’s easy to be intimidated by the group’s ample acclaim, but the food here speaks for itself, from tender-yet-crusty pretzel rolls topped with beet-cured salmon and celery cream cheese to a cookie counter that will make you feel like a kid in a candy store (read: we’ll take one of each).
